What is the cost of pet insurance for a dog or a cat?
Insurance premiums for dogs and cats vary depending on age and breed.
Over the course of their lifetime, they range:
- from €255 to €1,050 for dogs,
- from €245 to €622 for cats.
Are there any waiting periods?
Yes. There are indeed waiting periods:
- In the event of an accident, cover begins after 7 days.
- In the event of illness, cover begins after 60 days.
These waiting periods are waived if the following two conditions are met:
- You provide material evidence that the animal was covered by an insurance policy covering expenses resulting from an accident and an illness.
- The previous insurance contract was cancelled at the initiative of the policyholder less than 30 days before the effective date of the coverage under the contract.
Is it worth insuring your dog or cat?
Yes. In the event of an accident, hospitalisation or veterinary treatment can incur significant costs. Insurance allows you to cope with these unforeseen situations and ensure your pet receives the necessary care, without worrying about the costs.
How does dog and cat insurance work?
For the pet named in the policy, Foyer Assurance reimburses:
- Surgical costs (accident or illness)
- Hospitalisation following a specific incident
- Pre-operative costs (48 hours prior)
- Post-operative costs (15 days after) Costs incurred during the surgical procedure, such as: anaesthesia, medication, radiology and tests.
In the event of a non-congenital illness not requiring surgery, Foyer Assurance covers:
- Tests: X-rays, blood tests, ultrasound scans, etc. (limit of €100 per procedure, maximum of €500 per year)
- Chemotherapy / radiotherapy (limit of €100 per treatment, maximum of €500 per year)
What are the exclusions for taking out the happy pet policy?
- If your pet is under 3 months or over 4 years old
- If it is not identified by a microchip or tattoo
- If the necessary vaccinations have not been carried out
Is there an excess?
No. There is no excess.
Can I keep my current vet?
Yes. You are free to choose your own vet.
Does my pet need to be up to date with its vaccinations to remain insured?
Yes.
- For dogs: leptospirosis, parvovirus, distemper, infectious canine hepatitis, rabies
- For cats: feline typhus, infectious coryza, feline leukaemia, rabies
How do I claim a refund?
To obtain reimbursement, you simply need to have the form (available in your Client Area) completed by your veterinarian and then submit the reimbursement claim to your agent, together with the required supporting documents, including the pet’s health record.
